Possibilities of using sewage sludge as a secondary source of phosphorus in the Czech Republic

Technology Agency of the Czech Republic - Applied Research Support Programme ZÉTA

The aim of the project is to map the potential of sewage sludge from wastewater treatment plants in the Czech Republic in terms of phosphorus recycling. The legislation in the field of sewage sludge management gradually limits the existing methods of sludge treatment, and therefore it is necessary to look for new methods applicable in the conditions of the Czech Republic. The project results in a study that evaluates the composition of sludge and the degree of its contamination, as well as the phosphorus content and its form at selected WWTPs and the possibilities of its recycling. The analysis provides an expert basis for strategic planning of phosphorus recovery from sewage sludge in the Czech Republic.
