Heating and Energy Days 2021

August 31, 2021

This year we are also going to give a lecture at the Days of Heating and Power Engineering, which will take place in Olomouc on 14 - 15 September 2021. Come and listen to the lecture of Ing. Krišpín, which will take place on 15 September at 11:05.

Lecture annotation:

Issues related to the sustainability of waste management and its future development have been resonating in Czech society for a long time. Although today we are already able to ensure efficient sorting and the volume of separated waste is steadily increasing, recycling systems still face barriers to economic and environmental sensibility. At the same time, the problem of industrial waste and sorting plant rejects, which often account for 50-70% of the input waste stream, has remained systematically unaddressed for a long time. These residual wastes are characterised by their high calorific value and at the same time very low bulk density, which leads to significant logistics costs. The change in the Waste Act has resulted in dramatic moments in the management of discards and the issue remains a thorny problem.

All of this is just a precursor to a much larger problem in the form of mixed municipal waste, which is literally a ticking time bomb. Sorting discounts will become an unsustainable feature in the coming years and municipalities will face a step change in waste treatment costs, which is likely to be a turning point for the waste-to-energy sector - politically and economically.

The aim of this talk is to open up a discussion to present the implications of the lack of an essential element of the state's infrastructure in the form of waste-to-energy facilities.
